Several companies

Add a second company, switch between them, what each keeps for itself, and how to remove one.

3 minute read

Each company gets its own books

If you keep more than one company in Tally, Extolly can read each of them. Every company has its own dashboard, bills, saved reports and segments. Nothing typed for one can land in another.

Plans are priced by the number of companies: one, or up to three. See pricing. If you look after more than three, write to us.

Add another company

  1. In Tally, open the company as well as the one already open. Press Alt F3 in Tally and select it.
  2. In Extolly, open the menu at the top right and choose Add another company. With several companies already, choose Change company, then Add another company under the list. It is also on the Tally connection screen.
  3. Extolly lists every company open in Tally. Ones already set up are marked Already here. Tick the new one and press Start reading.

It is read the same way the first was. See Connect Tally.

During first set-up you can also tick several companies at once. They are read one after another.

Switch between companies

With two or more companies, the company's name at the top of the screen has a small arrow.

  1. Press the name. A sheet headed Your companies opens.
  2. Each company is listed with how it stands: In step with Tally, Tally closed, Not open in Tally, Figures differ from Tally or a count of bills to look at.
  3. Press a company. The dashboard reloads on that company's books.

Extolly remembers which company you were last looking at.

Keeping them all in step

All companies are checked on the same timer, one after another. For a company to be checked, it must be open in Tally.

  • A company that is not open in Tally waits, and says Not open in Tally ยท as of the time of its last read. The others carry on.
  • Bills you made for a company that is closed wait for it. They are never sent into a different company.

What is kept for each company, and what is shared

Remove a company

  1. Open Tally connection, choose the company's chip at the top, and press the settings button at the top right.
  2. Beside the company's name, press Remove.
  3. Read what it says and press Remove company.

The copy of that company's books on this computer is removed. Nothing in Tally is touched. Bills still waiting to go into Tally and GST details filled in here are kept, and come back if you add the company again. Your other companies stay as they are.

A copy of a company

If you make a copy of a company in Tally, for a new financial year for example, Extolly treats the copy as its own company. Add it like any other. Bills meant for one are never sent into the other.

One thing to know: while only one of the two is added to Extolly, Extolly cannot tell a copy opened under a new name from the original having been renamed. Add both, and each is always read as itself.
