Your books stay yours, and stay on your computer.
What Extolly reads, where it keeps it, who can reach it, and what leaves your computer. Written to be checked, not just believed.
Where your books are kept
Extolly keeps a copy of what it reads from Tally in a database file inside your Windows profile, on the same computer as Tally: one file for each company. That copy is what the dashboard shows. It is not uploaded anywhere.
Who can open the dashboard
The dashboard answers only at localhost:4319, an address that exists only on that computer. Other machines on your network cannot open it, and any other website open in a browser on the same computer is turned away.
What Extolly reads and writes
It reads entries, ledgers, stock items, unpaid bills and the company's own details, through the connection TallyPrime itself provides. Nothing is installed inside Tally.
It writes only what you make or change in Extolly: bills, payments, notes, entries, and new customers, suppliers and items. Each is read back afterwards and compared with what was sent.
What it will not do
- It does not delete customers or suppliers from Tally.
- It does not overwrite an entry that changed in Tally since you opened it.
- It does not remove entries from its copy on an empty answer from Tally.
What leaves your computer
Your books: nothing. No entry, party name, amount or balance is sent to us or to anyone else by the Windows app.
Crash reports. If part of the app fails, it writes a short note of what failed: the app's version, the kind of fault, the error message and where in the program it happened. Never figures or entries, and the name of your Windows account is taken out of any file path. These notes are kept on your computer. Sending them to us is a setting you can switch off, and it only applies once a build that has reporting switched on is released.
Updates. Once automatic updates are switched on in a release, the app asks our server whether a newer version exists and downloads it. That request carries no information about your books. You can turn automatic updates off in the app's settings.
This website. It has no analytics, no advertising trackers and no cookies. See the privacy policy.
How it is tested
Every version is put through more than 300 automatic checks before it is released. They include: a bill sent twice does not create two entries, a change does not overwrite what Tally holds, and an empty or broken answer from Tally removes nothing.
Honest limits
- The copy on disk is not encrypted by Extolly. It is protected the same way Tally's own data folder is: by your Windows sign-in. If the computer is shared or portable, switch on Windows device encryption.
- Anyone who can use the computer can open the dashboard. There are no separate user accounts or roles in the Windows app yet.
- The installer is not yet signed. Windows shows a warning on first install. The download page lists a checksum you can compare.
- Tally's own connection. Switching on TallyPrime's connection opens its port to other computers on your office network. That is how Tally works, with or without Extolly. A Windows firewall rule that limits port 9000 to this computer closes it.
Removing Extolly
Removing a company in Extolly's settings deletes the copy of that company's books from the computer and touches nothing in Tally. Uninstalling the app asks whether to also remove the copy of your books and your settings. Your data in Tally is not affected either way.
When Extolly cloud opens
Extolly cloud will keep a copy of your books on our servers so that your phone can open them. That changes what is said on this page, and this page will be rewritten before it opens: what is stored, where, who can read it, and how to have it deleted. Nothing is uploaded until you link a computer to an account yourself.
